June 21 – National Indigenous Peoples Day
June 21st, the summer solstice, has been declared National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada and we encourage everyone to join with us and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit peoples.
Currently, there is a lot of pain being felt across this great country and now, more than ever is a time to stand united and raise our voices in solidarity with our friends, coworkers, and loved ones.
“It is time to lift each other up. We are so used to putting each other down, whether it’s through discrimination or racism or economic one-up-manship….It’s time to lift each other up.”
Chief Wilton Littlechild, Commissioner on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission:
The world is an enormous place with humans covering almost every inch of it. We are all on this journey through space and time together. If we want to move forward as a society and make our lives better we need to listen and learn. We need to ask questions to help build a more solid foundation for the future.
A nation built on understanding, compassion, and listening might seem like a far-reaching utopia that would never happen, but we can make it happen. One person shouting in a crowd is barely recognizable, but when the whole crowd starts shouting with them, it can be heard for miles.
